Over the past three weeks, we've had three outages which is very bad. After the second outage, we set up wake-on-LAN #36, but we still had an outage last Thursday. This one was likely caused by a motherboard or BIOS issue, so I updated the BIOS. However, I think something like that outage could still happen again, so perhaps we should run the server continuously over the weekdays like #15? I don't have a good answer for this.
Another useful thing that we're doing is to only update the server on Friday nights so if something goes wrong, we won't have an outage on a weekday.
We're updating on Saturdays now.
Also, I'm going to try and make sure that the server doesn't reboot randomly during weekdays. You may see reboots during weekends if I'm doing maintainence. I'll reopen this issue if we have more outages.
We had an outage this morning and I'm still investigating what happened. Also, Wake-on-LAN isn't working.
Today's outage was due to a five-second power outage. I tested Wake-on-LAN again and it should work now. I also configured the server to boot up automatically when power is restored.
Remember to update our DNS settings after our IP address changes! This was the cause of today's outage.
