    If you haven't seen exohub yet, you should check it out. It's awesome. It even has an integrated VS Code editor!

    • Improve nginx SSL settings #71: Yay security! Our site now gets an A+ on the SSL Server Test! 🎉

    • Finish exocalc to exohub migration #70: We also finished the migration from exocalc to exohub and will permanently shut down exocalc on December 1.

    • Custom theme for exohub #68: The exohub login page now has a custom theme. We're working on customizing the other pages too.

    • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card #63: We bought a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card which should help minimize outages in the future.

    More uptime improvements! Stable

    Our uptime is nearly approaching 100% on our status page!

    • Improve uptime after power outages #44: We're not quite at 100% yet since we had two power outages this week, but we should be able to better recover after power outages and get the server back and running immediately.

    • Registration website #72: We now have a registration website for automating signups.

    • exocalc to exohub migration #70: On December 1, exocalc will be discontinued. Please back up your exocalc projects and migrate them over to exohub, which we are still in the process of setting up. It's going to be great!

    100% uptime! Stable

    We now run the server at night instead of shutting it down at 23:00 CST, so we should be approaching 100% uptime in the next few days! This should make hosting websites and servers on exozyme a lot more useful!

    Other improvements:

    • Security fixes #4: We fixed some long-standing security issues.

    • Funding #13: We now have a Liberapay!

    • Ports for web hosting #59: You can now use ports 4200 to 4299 for hosting personal projects and servers and access them from the internet.

    • exogit improvements #43: We added a GitHub login button and now exogit will (sometimes) sign commits made on the web interface.

    This is probably going to be the last major release in a while, although there are still some long-term issues to be resolved. That's it for this release!

    exozyme bug day fixes! Stable

    We had a very successful bug day today: 13 issues were closed overall, including several security issues.

    • Miscellaneous security fixes #19 #22 #21 #61 #62: These issues cover a wide range of security vulnerabilities, so you can check them out additionally, and perhaps help us out if we missed anything.

    • Broken exotube videos #56: We should have fixed all of them, so enjoy watching exotube without any broken videos.

    • Website and wiki cleanup #64: We significantly cleaned up the quickstart guide and moved a lot of it to the wiki. The wiki also saw many improvements and our website repo had several issues fixed too.

    • Mouse capture in RDP sessions #27: We examined this closely again, and it turns out the issue is an inherent flaw in the RDP protocol. Fortunately, workarounds do exist but are very hacky.

    Well, that's it for this release. The server is mostly idle all day, so go out and explore!

    New services: exoportal and exoci! Stable

    A lot has happened in the last two weeks, including some breaking changes:

    • PeerTube videos should now load properly #53 #56: Turns out it was a bug in ffmpeg, so we compiled a patched version and it finally works now! You can stream all you want and the replays will now load properly.

    • SSH now on port 22 #58: We originally set up SSH on port 4884 to protect against bot attacks, but it's annoying to have to type the port every time. Our SSH server should be pretty well configured to defend against these attacks anyways.

    • RDP now on port 3389 #60: Similar as SSH, we now host RDP on the standard port 3389 instead of 3388.

    • exoportal #54: Create VMs and containers on exoportal, our own version of AWS or Google Cloud!

    • exoci #12: We finally set up Drone CI at exoci, so we now have a GitHub actions equivalent on exogit!

    • Wiki improvements: With all of these changes, we've also updated our wiki to reflect them as well, so check it out!

    We're going to have a bug day next Tuesday mainly focusing on security issues so please help out if you have time!

    KDE upgrades for exodesk! Stable

    This weekend, we updated our server to the latest KDE software! Enjoy Plasma 5.23 and Frameworks 5.87. Other updates include Code 1.61, Element 1.9.2, Gitea 1.15.4, npm 8.1.0, and more. If you're wondering why your desktop background has changed, KDE Plasma has just gotten better. That's it for this release!

    Minor bug fixes Stable

    A few bugs were fixed in this release:

    • Fix KDE screensaver 100% CPU usage #50: Yeah, this was a pretty nasty bug... but it's fixed now.

    • Fix Vulkan with exodesk #48: Vulkan usually performs a lot better than OpenGL on our AMD GPU, so enjoy the extra FPS!

    • Website cleanup and improvement: Our website keeps on getting better.

    • Fix game permissions problems: If you were having problems getting some games to save properly, the permissions should be fixed now. Open an issue if it shows up again.

    That's it for this release, and keep on working on fixing bugs!

    New GPU! Stable

    Given that GPU prices look like they are not going down any time soon, I finally decided to get a new Radeon RX 6600 XT at Micro Center. It was very overpriced, but we can finally game at acceptable framerates!

    We also added some more games to the server which you can check out using exodesk. Of course, even with the new GPU, some games are not going to work as well due to our limited bandwidth for remote desktop.

    A very big release! Stable

    Wow, a lot of stuff happened in as we finally reached our v3.0 milestone!

    • More RAM #26: We now have 32GB of RAM and plenty of swap. Never worry about running out of memory again!

    • New background for exodesk #37: Check at the new exodesk background.

    • Improved uptime #44: We've discussed ways to improve our uptime and should see fewer outages. No more random reboots during the day!

    • Website improvements: Our website just keeps on getting better. This seems to get mentioned in every release, but it happens all the time.

    • Software updates: Some major updates we did this weekend include LibreOffice 7.2.1, Linux kernel 5.14.5, and npm 7.24.

    Now time to start working on v4.0...

    For this release, we've put some effort into making exozyme easier to use.

    • exodesk improvements #46: It's now easier to log out and Konsole is pinned in the application launcher by default.

    • Website updates: Our website was also improved, in particular, with the quickstart guide.
